This template package contains the following files referenced in the 3CX1500D7 RF Linear Amplifier project by Jerry Pittenger, K8RA, published in Chapter 18 of the 2006-2009 ARRL Handbook and Chapter 17 of the 2010 and later editions. 24V PS Final - Rev Aug 2010.pcb PS Rectifier Board Final.pcb RF Control Board Final - Rev Aug 2010.pcb Pi-Calc Ver 2.0.xls For the 2011 Handbook, the 24V PS and RF Control Board layout files were updated by K8RA to correct the following problems in the original project files distributed with the Handbook in the 2006-2010 editions: - C202 and C203 had both leads connected to ground. - D202 and D203 had both leads connected to ground. - Keying transistor Q101 was wired for the wrong pinouts The PS Rectifier Board layout is correct in all versions of the files. In the schematic of the amplifier (Fig 17.57 in the 2010 edition of the Handbook), make the following schematic changes: - Change the part label for C204 to C205 at the output Pin 3 of U2 (7812). - There are two D208s on the diagram. One is at the output of U2 and the other at the collector of Q201. Change the part label to D210 for the diode connected to the output of Q201. - Change the label of Q101 from 2N3055 to MJE3055. In the parts list for the amplifier: - Change the listing for D205-209 (1N5393) to D205-210. - Add C204-205, 20 uF, 50 V, electrolytic - Change Q101 from 2N3055 to MJE3055 These changes have been made in the 2011 edition. The .pcb files are PC board layouts for the three printed circuit boards used in the amplifier. As described in the article, these files were created with a free layout program called ExpressPCB available at www.expresspcb.com. You must download and install a copy of ExpressPCB to view these files. The ExpressPCB Web site has information about ordering these boards in small quantities, or you can make your own boards using by printing the artwork and using the iron-on transfer technique as described in the article and in Chapter 23 of the ARRL Handbook. Pi-Calc is an interactive Excel spreadsheet that the author used to calculate the Pi-L network values used in the amplifier and detailed in the article.
