Readme File for ARRL 2006 Periodicals CD Technical support is available from ARRL at Phone: +1 860-594-0200 Email: tis@arrl.org NORMAL INSTALLATION The typical install is where the publication files are copied onto your hard drive, and can be browsed by clicking your START button (Windows XP users), ALL Programs, then the ARRL 2006 Periodicals CD option. ADOBE READER IS REQUIRED TO USE THIS CD Adobe Reader Version 7 for both PC and Mac is included on this CD Rom. ARRL recommends you install this latest version of Adobe Reader for full access to all features of this CD. The InstallShield program will try to install the Adobe Reader for PC users. Mac users will have to launch the Adobe Install program manually from the CD. If you already have an older version of the Adobe Reader program installed you will likely get a warning message when trying to open the publication files. This year's files were created in Acrobat Version 7 and some features will not work with older versions. Publication files have also been tested with Adobe Reader Version 6 and the files will open if you click the OK button on the warning dialog box. Versions older then 6 have not been tested. TO VIEW THE PUBLICATION FILES DIRECTLY FROM THE CD If you prefer not to install the publications files to your hard drive, they and the extra project files can be browsed directly from the CD. You will see several directories on the CD, 'Adobe Reader' which contains the Adobe Reader program, and 'Program Files, which contains the publication files. Once Adobe Reader is installed on your computer you should be able to explore the LocalAppData folder and double-click on any document (PDF) file to launch that publication in the Reader program. The recommended file to start with is called INTRO (or INTRO.pdf) which contains links to all the other files on the CD. The names of the directories may vary for Mac users, but the publication files should be easily found by browsing the CD directories. The publication files start with the following file name prefixes: Introduction - The Introduction file to the CD Rom Contests - Contest scores and soapbox info N - NCJ files Q - QST files X - QEX files SecNews - Section news files The number after the file prefix generally indicates the month it was published in. There are also folders called QST & QEX under "FILES" which contain additional project software and files.
