Communication Handbook (11th edn) Index of Free SoftwareIMPORTANT NOTE: Airlink Express - A user-friendly digital mode software package for the Amateur Radio operator. The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows 7. It offers PSK, MFSK and RTTY digital modes with logging and macro capabilities. If you have ever used the Digipan software you will be immediately familiar with Airlink Express. Argo - Easy to use waterfall display for the reception of QRSS, DFCW etc commonly used on the LF bands. Benchtop Calculator is a small (72 kB) application that provides lots of engineering functions, many of which are handy for ham radio work. Just copy the file to your directory of choice and double click on it (or set up a shortcut) to run it - no fancy installation process is required. The program uses a slightly unconventional method for data entry. Most values must be entered in the Data Input Module area followed by clicking Enter in the desired conversion/calculation area to use the value. CW Decoder - Translate Morse code to printed text with your PC sound card. 5 to 50WPM. Windows Vista compatible. Transmit Morse code, keyboard input 5 to 50 wpm. Key the transmitter via computer serial (com) port. G4GLM Programs – provided by Dr G L Manning, G4GLM, this is a suite of useful tools for amateur radio calculations. Great Circle Map - Produce your own Great Circle map with this program from SM3GSJ. Other programs by SM3GSJ mapping islands, lakes, rivers etc are also enclosed. IcePac HF Propagation Predictions - An Ionospheric Communications Enhanced Profile Analysis & Circuit (ICEPAC) HF Propagation program from NTIA/ITS. This may be the best Freeware propagation tool available. Included is VOACAP - a free professional HF propagation prediction program from NTIA/ITS and Ham Cap an HF propagation prediction tool for amateur radio with sunspot data for 2008-2015. MMANA-GAL is an antenna-analyzing tool based on the moment method, which was introduced in MININEC. MMSSTV - This program is for transmitting and receiving SSTV using Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP and a soundcard. MMTTY - Superb RTTY software program. MMVARI is a multi-Mode Sound Card Amateur Radio program for receiving and transmitting the RTTYPSK-FSK-MFSK modes. Please note that MMVARI is a beta program, so is not warranted and is still under development. Morse Trainer - The latest updated version of the great Morse code trainer produced by G4FON. MultiPSK 4.13, Clock 1.8.3, Multidem 2.2.2. Ham Radio Software from F6CTE, three programs in one ZIP file.. MultiPSK will operate most data modes available including:
MultiDem v2.2.2. A USB/LSB/AM Modem (Modulator/Demodulator) for SDR and DSB (direct conversion) transceivers QRS - Two versions of ON7YD's QRSS and DFCW transmitting software. This program is primarily intended to be used for QRSS and DFCW but has also some normal CW facilities. Keying of the transmitter and frequency shifting (for DFCW) is done via the serial or parallel port, using a very simple interface. Various options are available, including QSK and fast CW identification in QRSS and DFCW modes. In 'QSO mode' the program is optimized to share the screen with receiving software. Version 3.17 is Win3 compatible but will not support the parallel port under WinNT, Win2000, WinXP etc. Version 4.02 has full support of the parallel port but requires at least Win98. SD sets the standard for fast, simple logging and editing in the major international contests and in dozens of others worldwide. It is intended for single-op unassisted entries, and runs on any version of Windows, from Win95 to WinXP, with a console (text-mode) display. SD is freeware. It offers real-time editing of your complete log, together with ASCII files for ease of maintenance. It's the only contest logger to offer all the following features.
This all happens in real-time, as you type individual callsign characters. There's no need to touch another key or memorise multiple keystrokes. The Windows programs are text-mode - with no GUI. Included are
SD offers instant access to your complete log, and you can edit any QSO during or after the contest. Following all edits, whether simple or complex, SD checks your complete log for consistency of dupes and multipliers, and instantly updates and re-scores all relevant QSOs. Try this on any other contest logger - and see the difference for yourself. SD is easy to use, with no multiple keystrokes for any logging or editing functions. The HF programs link too many Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu radios to follow band and mode changes, and to give instant frequency changes. Spectrum Lab is DL4YHF's Audio Spectrum Analyzer which runs under Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP (home and professional), or Linux/WINE. Its features include: waterfall display, filter, frequency converter, data logger and much more. WinDRM - Amateur Radio Digital Voice with high speed data transfer mode. WinGrid - IARU QTH Locator grid square distance and bearing calculator WSJT ("Weak Signal Communication, by K1JT") offers specific digital protocols optimized for meteor scatter, ionospheric scatter, and EME (moonbounce) at VHF/UHF, as well as HF skywave propagation. The program can decode fraction-of-a-second signals reflected from ionized meteor trails and steady signals 10 dB below the audible threshold. A WSJT6 User's Guide is also enclosed MAP65 implements a wideband, polarization-matching receiver for JT65 signals. It works together with Linrad (by SM5BSZ) and dual-polarization RF hardware to receive and decode all detectable JT65 signals in a 90kHz passband, matching the linear polarization angle of each one and producing a band map of decoded callsigns sorted by frequency. Its principal application is EME on the VHF and UHF bands. MAP65-IQ is a single-polarization version designed to work with the SDR-14, SDR-IQ, and Perseus receivers. It has all features of MAP65 except the polarization matching capability. WSPR implements a protocol designed for probing potential propagation paths with low-power transmissions. Each transmission carries a station's callsign, Maidenhead grid locator, and transmitter power in dBm. The program can decode signals with S/N as low as -28 dB in a 2500 Hz bandwidth. Stations with internet access can automatically upload their reception reports to a central database called WSPRnet, which includes a mapping facility. SimJT is a simulation program. It generates audio-frequency JT65 and CW signals in a background of gaussian white noise, with user-specified signal-to-noise ratio. WSJT, MAP65, and WSPR are open-source programs designed for weak-signal digital communication by amateur radio. Normal usage requires a standard SSB transceiver and a personal computer with soundcard. SimJT is a utility that generates simulated signals for testing purposes. Non Amateur Radio Programs that may be useful Audacity is a very useful audio recording and editing program. For instance, WAV files can be constructed and edited suitable for use in the N1MM program for SSB contests. Runs on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista: DivX 7 for Windows provides everything you need to enjoy high-quality digital videos on your computer, including HD H.264 (.mkv) videos with AAC audio and videos created using all previous versions of DivX technology Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 is also included, this free software provides basic photo editing making it easier than ever to view, find, fix, and share your photo memories. [Note that this software is no longer supported by the manufacturer]
